New Year's Resolutions Thu, Jan 08, 2015
A New Year often brings new resolutions. Often, what people are seeking is a new positive habit. Are you struggling to establish that new habit? Try BJ Fogg's advice. Here are his 3 steps.
Step 1 - "Make it tiny. Simplify the behavior so it's both easy to do and fast." Ex. Floss 1 tooth, Do 3 pushups, Go for a 5 minute walk
Step 2 - "Find a spot. Find a spot in your existing routing where this tiny new behavior could fit. Put it immediately after some act that's already a solid habit like eating lunch or brushing your teeth."
Step 3 - "Train the cycle. Focus on performing this tiny behavior every day as part of your routine. Set reminders for yourself until this behavior becomes automatic. Keep the behavior simple until it becomes a solid habit."
This can be the secret sauce: Starting with small steps can provide the necessary momentum/behavior that will result in larger positive changes. Keep it going! Tiny can become significant.
Tomorrow, Matt leaves for the Rapport leadership seminar in Nevada. He'll be there from Friday - Sunday. This is a unique leadership experience to say the least. Please wish him safe travels.
