DON'T TRY Wed, Apr 13, 2016
Lately I’ve been reading Charles Bukowski. He is a strange, old, creepy man, but he has a way with words. He is fascinating to me, the more I read the more I want to find out about him. I found out that his parting words to the world, which are inscribed on his tombstone, was a piece of advice of the rest of the world. DON’T TRY. This irked me, this man who, by all means was a degenerate, still loved the world. He tried so hard to find compassion and humanity in a dark place, and this is what he left? It’s been stuck in my head for a few days until something clicked. He’s not saying “Don’t to make an effort,” he’s saying “Just do what comes natural to you.” Don’t force it, find what you love and never stop doing it. So yeah Chuck, you’re right, don’t try, just do.
