This is something that was mentioned a lot in the Happiness Advantage, but what does it really mean?

Your brain is connected by billions of neurons, these neurons are roadways for any process that your brain has.  Your emotion, reflexes, senses, and movement are results of impulses sent via neurons.  They are crucial for literally everything that you do, think or feel.

It was previously believed that once a neural connection was severed, it could not be repaired.  If something happened to your brain due injury, those processes that were sent via those particular damaged neurons would never be returned to you.  So there wasn’t any credible studies tracking the growth and repair of your brain.  

BUT science has found that you can repair those neurons, increase your mental capacity, and even ward off degenerative mental diseases like Alzheimer’s.  Your brain is much more malleable and expansive than previously thought!  This is basically what neuroplasticity is, the ability for your brain to repair itself and continue to grow.  So I thought I’d share with you some ways to keep those neural pathways firing and healthy.

Engage in new and challenging tasks.

Be curious and find out “why?”

Exercise 3-4 times a week moderately.

Develop meaningful relationships.

Eat a lot of brain food, like broccoli, spinach, dark chocolate, fish, lentils, and nuts.
