Thoughts and Colors...

Indie Capitalists say "no" to common daily annoyances. They bring to reality those random ideas from bull sessions that constantly ask "why hasn't anyone done that yet?" Nowadays, thanks to ecommerce, you need a lot less capital, so you can actually make a living by solving those small annoyances. Need a designer? Freelancer! Need to register a business? Google it. Build a website? Template it. Need photos? Stock photos. Product development? Skype manufacturers. Salesman? Adwords! The world is changing fast. Anyone who formerly skimmed profit as a kind of middleman, will need to get creative.

Oh. And colors are coming this weekend. :)

It is about time someone brought excitement to belts. And by that, I mean like a cool Steve McQueen -ish excitement. Not like annoying giddy excitement where belts have designs and colors that make your eyes sore. We're talking classy. Simple. Stylish. Sliding.

Of Lemons and Belts

If life gives you lemons, whatever you do, don't make lemonade.

Life gave a young girl lemons. So she studied the lemons, their texture, their history, their sour taste... and then she taught others about how exciting lemons are. Her lemon courses were famous & groundbreaking! Then she learned how to juggle the lemons, learned how to market her juggling show, and sold tickets to her show. What fun it was! She then zested the lemons, sold it to her local baker. Finally, she grated the lemons, and sold the rinds to a nearby restaurant that used the rinds as decor for its lemon chicken entree.

With the leftover lemon, she juiced it with the intent of selling it. But she had made enough money at that point that she decided to make it into a deliciously chilled drink, and simply enjoyed it herself. She gave what was left -- simple lemon seeds -- to a young boy at the corner lemonade stand, and told him how to look past the lemonade.

Even after all that, she couldn't sit still long, and eventually travelled the world, giving talks on how to creatively use lemons, and how the process works for any fruit at any place in the world. She felt completely satisfied with her life.

If life gives you lemons, just remember that making lemonade was somebody else's idea. What could you do if a lifetime supply of lemons is all you had to make money? What creative ways could you sell a lemon, from the initial whole lemon, down to the very seeds. You must BE BOLD and learn to look past the lemonade.

"If life gives you lemons, be creative -- lemonade's been done before."

You have no choice but to be creative. But don't worry, it's more fun that way.

Our Latest Video Is Up and Running!

What's up folks! The first video of our SlideBelt series is officially up and running! Check it out below, and also on the front page underneath our featured products. We know you will enjoy it both as an instruction to slidebelt usage, and as a tribute to belts without holes & adjustable belts everywhere. Slide on!

By the way, as our blog is centered around indie capitalism and small businesses we have this advice & guidance to fellow owners out there: if you are a small business with a product or service to sell, and you have not yet utilized video to speak to your customers, you need to get it started. Video is the future of consumer interaction and will separate the businesses with STYLE, from the businesses that are only there to make money. The business with style will inevitably stand out due to their creative power, fueled by their desire to constantly improve themselves and their products --- their videos will burst with pride, class, and a touch of personal professionalism. The businesses that exist solely to make money, will produce videos of the quality seen only at the DMV... and we all know if the DMV was a private business, years ago it would have gone under! GOOD LUCK!

UPDATE, and the funny Mac Belt

Quick update: PACKAGES are still SHIPPING as we speak. If you ordered on Wednesday the 19th or earlier, you will receive your SlideBelt by Christmas.

In other news, we had a good laugh at a new Kickstarter project called a Mac Belt. Now I know we have converted the old belt style into a fully adjustable leather belt without holes and generally made belts simpler and more stylish, but the guys behind Mac Belt have attempted to make it more...useful. It is quite hilarious, particularly all the pictures of things hanging off all the different buckles. Now, we at SlideBelts.com appreciate their poking of the box, and we actually aim to do a secret compartment in our belts. Instincts tell me that a house key would prove useful for a compartment on the buckle, or perhaps a hidden compass or survival kit. Lots of great ideas, and we'll get there eventually but all in due time. There are lots of great ideas out there for all sorts of products, but ideas placed in the wrong order will always fail in execution, and someone else will nail it while you try to re-focus the ship. But like I said, smaller companies should be commended for poking the box, and because of their size they can change gears pretty quickly --- that is part of why small businesses can compete with the big guys.
